Application: Morrison Devises Plan for Mexican GC to Automate Chinese Computer Manufacturer

Client Need:
Seems like not that long ago that “Made in China” on the label meant low quality or no technology. Those days are over. While we’ve been watching the cursor blink on our desktop, the largest Chinese computer manufacturer has been busy inking deals with almost every retail computer “label” to manufacture their desktop and laptop computers. With manufacturing sites in China, India and now in Mexico, most of the world’s computers will be “Made by China.”
One of their facilities in Northern Mexico needed to be quickly operational to tap the ever increasing demand for computers. Their General Contractor - ABITAT, called upon Morrison Company to assist them in automating the process of moving highly technical computers from assembly, to testing, and finally to the shipping department.
Morrison Company Solution:
Twenty-two mechanical VRCs (Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors) were used to move carts of completed computers throughout the multi-floor facility. These VRCs were provided through Wildeck, a premier US manufacturer of mechanical and hydraulic VRCs. The shipping schedule was coordinated to correspond with the building construction schedule. When installation was needed, Morrison Company sourced a nationally known VRC installer to go to Mexico and train a crew to unload, install the units. Because of the language difference, Morrison Company worked with the ABITAT to have an interpreter on hand to facilitate the learning comprehension.
Results:
Building and installation of the 500,000 SQ. FT. facility was completed in seven months. The twenty-two VRCs passed the end-user inspection and plans are to begin assembly in the facility in the next few weeks. The trained crews are now ready to be used on similar projects by the General Contractor - ABITAT. Both the end-user and the client were very pleased with the product and how Morrison Company directed this portion of this time-sensitive project.
